Study Hall Seat Fees in India: How Reading-Room Libraries Collect Rent (Not Tuition)

When an Indian owner says “library,” they often mean a paid self-study hall: chairs, maybe AC, a locker wall, and UPSC/SSC/NEET aspirants who cannot study at home. They are not issuing books. They are renting seats by shift.

Typical Patna-range: about ₹400–₹700 a month for a normal seat, ₹1,000–₹1,200 for AC or 24-hour. One physical seat can be sold twice — morning to one member, night to another.

Why tuition Excel fails here

• Seat #14 morning and seat #14 night are two paying people with two due dates.
• Locker or deposit is not the monthly rent — mixing them starts “maine de diya” fights.
• After BPSC or SSC, members leave. If you have no valid-till, you nag ghosts and miss renewals.
